AMMAN — Switzerland acknowledges that Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria have been drawn into the dynamics of a violent regional crisis, vowing commitment to supporting political solutions to the conflicts and to responding to what has become the most serious humanitarian crisis of our time.
In a statement to The Jordan Times on the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day, the Swiss Embassy in Amman says that emergency assistance for Switzerland means “first and foremost” providing help in the field which, it said, requires full respect of international humanitarian law and international humanitarian standards and principles.
At times of armed conflict, the statement said it is critical that the parties allow international aid organizations access to the civilian population. World Humanitarian Day is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
