AMMAN — Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter on Friday handed over a well and the main connecting pipelines, funded by his country, to provide sustainable and safe drinking water supplies in Azraq Refugee Camp, according to an embassy statement.
The project, announced by the minister in October 2015 during his previous visit to the camp, is funded and supervised by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in cooperation with UNHCR, UNICEF and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
The project, worth JD1.5 million, will allow the annual reduction of operational costs of water supply by some JD650,000, the statement added. Burkhalter announced that Switzerland will provide Jordan with some JD18 million in 2017, as part of its international cooperation programme.
