AMMAN — Swiss Ambassador to Jordan Hans-Peter Lenz, accompanied by UNICEF Deputy Representative to Jordan Ettie Higgins, visited a UNICEF supported Makani Centre in Sahab on Monday. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) announced $815,000 in funding support to UNICEF as part of the response to the Syrian crisis.
The amount will be used to increase access to critical learning and protection support for vulnerable children in Jordan, a UNICEF statement said. The grant will support four Makani centers in East Amman, reaching 2,480 children between the ages of 5 and 17 over one year of implementation.
The Makani (My Space in Arabic) approach was initiated by UNICEF in 2015 with NGO partners to provide children with learning programmes, psychosocial support services and life skills training all under one roof, the statement said.
