AMMAN — Investigators on Wednesday said they were questioning a man who allegedly robbed and murdered a man and injured another in two separate incidents in Amman in recent days.

In the first incident, which occurred in Shmeisani on Monday, the son of an Iraqi national found his father shot dead in his apartment, a senior judicial source said.

“The victim was struck in the head with one bullet and some of his belongings, including his mobile phone and vehicle were missing,” the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

On Tuesday, the judicial source maintained, “a Jordanian man was shot in Marka following an argument with a man who also robbed him of his personal belongings,” the judicial source maintained.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition, according to the senior judicial source.

Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said investigators concluded that the two incidents were connected based on evidence found at the crime scenes.

“Our special task force was able to identify a suspect based on the evidence left at the crime scene and we placed him under surveillance,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The special task force raided the suspect’s residence and “arrested him without any major incident”, according to the police official.

“Investigators seized a gun that was in the suspect’s possession and a ballistic match indicated that this weapon was used in both the Shmeisani and Marka incidents,” Sartawi added.

In his initial testimony to investigators, Sartawi maintained, the suspect claimed that “he murdered the Iraqi man to rob him”.

The suspect also stated he "shot the Jordanian man the following day in Marka over old feuds and also to rob him", according to the police official.

"The suspect stated that after killing the Iraqi man, he headed to Marka the following day and waited for the Jordanian man near his home and shot him the minute he saw him," according to Sartawi.

Police were able to retrieve some of the stolen goods, including the Iraqi victim’s vehicle, according to a statement by the Public Security Department.

Meanwhile, the senior judicial source said that investigations are ongoing in both incidents.

“The criminal court prosecutor is currently questioning the suspect in order to level the appropriate charges against him,” the senior judicial source said.
