SSC retirees borrow JD13.58m under gov’t programme

AMMAN — Around 4,525 social security retirees have borrowed JD13.58 million so far in soft loans from the government to start or boost small businesses, Social Security Corporation (SSC) Director General Nadia Rawabdeh said on Sunday.
Some 458 widows of SSC retirees are among the beneficiaries of the government programme, under which JD20 million has been made available in soft loans to SSC retirees or their widows.
The SSC is running the programme, Rawabdeh said, adding that retirees can borrow up to 10 times their pension, to a maximum of JD10,000, if the pension is less than JD2,000. The loans can be paid back over a maximum of 60 months, provided that the retiree or widow is under 70 years old at the end of the repayment period.
