Special forces leave for Saudi Arabia, UAE drills

AMMAN — The Royal Jordanian Special Forces along with a Special Operations' contingent left for Saudi Arabia on Saturday to take part in the joint Jordanian-Saudi military drill codenamed "Abdullah Six".

The two-week exercise aims at enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces, expertise exchange, military skills development and increasing combat readiness, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The "Abdullah Six" exercise is the sixth edition of a series of Jordanian-Saudi joint exercises, which were introduced in 2012. Meanwhile, a group affiliated with the “Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Rapid Intervention/High Readiness Brigade” left for the UAE to attend a joint Jordanian-Emirati drill.

The 20-day exercise is intended to establish the concept of joint military work.

The newly named Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Rapid Intervention/High Readiness Brigade was established in 2014 as a rapid intervention battalion, encompassing rapid intervention battalions 91, 81 and 61 commandos in 2017, in addition to a female section to assist in the brigade’s duties.
