Smuggler dead as JAF thwarts illegal border crossing at Syria border

AMMAN — The Eastern Military Zone on Thursday foiled an illegal border crossing and smuggling attempt, resulting in the death of a smuggler, while the rest managed to flee to Syria, according to a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

The source said that Border Guards spotted a group of people who approached the Jordan-Syria border and attempted to illegally cross, which required the guards to apply the rules of engagement followed in such cases, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The source added that the army will apply “full force” to thwart any infiltration or smuggling attempts to protect the Kingdom’s borders and citizens.
