‘Six killed in road accidents on Friday’

AMMAN — Six people were killed and 31 injured in traffic accidents and fires across the Kingdom over the weekend, officials said on Saturday.

Three people died and five were injured in a collision involving a car and a pickup truck at Hweijah junction in Mafraq, said Lt. Col. Yaser Habahbeh of the Central Traffic Department.

Two Jordanians travelling in the car were killed, as well as the driver of the pickup, who was also Jordanian, Habahbeh told The Jordan Times. 

“News websites reported the death of two Egyptians in the accident in Mafraq, but the truth is that all the fatalities were Jordanian,” Habahbeh said, noting that four Egyptians were travelling in the pickup. .

Also in Mafraq, some 80km northeast of Amman, a 24-year-old man was killed when a car wrongfully changed lanes.

Meanwhile, one Egyptian died after being run over on Mecca Street in Amman at 1am on Friday, he added.  

In Tafileh, some 180km southwest of Amman, a boy was killed and his mother was injured in a crash in Hassa, the Civil Defence Department (CDD) said. 

They were taken to Prince Zeid Military Hospital, a CDD official told The Jordan Times. 

Also on Friday, five people were injured in a crash in Irbid, 80km north of Amman, the CDD official said, adding that they were taken to Muath Bin Jabal Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition. 

On Saturday, seven people were injured in a fire at a house in Jawa in Amman, the CDD official said, adding that they were taken to Al Bashir Hospital where they were listed in fair condition. 

Six people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Irbid. They were listed in fair condition at Princess Basma Hospital and Irbid Specialised Hospital, according to the CDD official.

Meanwhile, four people in Amman were listed in fair condition in Totanji Hospital after they were injured in a road accident. 

 

In Bayader in Amman, CDD firefighters extinguished a blaze at a paint shop, the CDD official said, adding that there were no injuries.
