Shraideh, US official talk cooperation

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernisation Nasser Shraideh on Wednesday met with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Assistance Coordination and Regional and Multilateral Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Chris Backemeyer, in the presence of Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan.

During the meeting, Shraideh stressed the “solid” Jordanian-American strategic partnership, voicing keenness to bolster relations in various fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Extending appreciation towards the support provided by the US to Jordan, Shraideh highlighted the importance of helping Jordan undertake developmental journey and face economic challenges.

Shraideh referred to the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis on the Kingdom, which affected several sectors, stressing the necessity of the international community’s continued support to Jordan to provide the basic needs of Syrian refugees.

The plan to modernise the public sector aims to raise the efficiency of public administration, build institutional capacities, simplify and develop procedures, he said.

Shraideh also briefed Backemeyer on a number of projects Jordan intends to implement, including the National Water Carrier Project, which aims to meet Jordan's growing water needs.

Backemeyer affirmed that Jordan is a strategic partner of the US, stressing the depth of bilateral cooperation and the continued US support to the Kingdom.
