Shraideh appointed ASEZA chief

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday appointed Nasser Shraideh the chief commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). 

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, who was in the same post before he was designated as premier. 

Shraideh was born in Irbid in 1967 and obtained his first and second degrees in economics from Yarmouk University in 1988 and 1994. 

He has served as environment minister in 2010-2011, chief commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority in 2009 and secretary general of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in 2006, promoted from the post of director of the international cooperation department at the ministry, where he had served since 1998. 

The authority administers the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, which was inaugurated in 2001 as an initiative by His Majesty King Abdullah to render Aqaba a regional hub for trade, tourism, and culture. Six ministerial level commissioners, each responsible for a major area of regulatory or operational activity, govern the ASEZA.
