AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labour Yousef Al Shamali on Saturday conducted visits to various markets, including specialised chicken retailers, to assess the availability and prices of poultry products.

During his tour, Shamali examined the quantity of chicken available in the local market and assessed the competition among producers and retailers.

He urged market inspectors from the ministry to continue monitoring commercial establishments and places where fresh chicken and poultry products are sold to ensure an ample supply, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

The ministry is committed to take any necessary actions to preserve price stability and prevent any unjustifiable surge in prices, he affirmed.

He also highlighted that the ministry's investigations have revealed that the increase in chicken prices can be attributed to a significant loss of poultry due to fluctuating weather conditions.

The National Society of Consumer Protection (NSCP) urged the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to implement fair price ceilings for all varieties of chicken. The NSCP cited an increase in prices that does not align with production costs during this time of year, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

Mohammed Obaidat, the NSCP president, emphasised that if prompt action is not taken and prices remain high, the option of a boycott will be considered.

The public will be urged to refrain from purchasing and consuming chicken in any form for a specific period, until prices revert to their previous levels, he said.
