AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Monday held separate meetings with a number of Moroccan officials over means to enhance cooperation between the two countries, with talks also covering the latest international and regional developments and issues of mutual interest.

Fayez’s visit to Rabat comes upon an invitation from President of the House of Councillors of Morocco Naam Miyara, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a meeting with Miyara, Fayez stressed the need for building on the existing relations, notably in the political, economic, and parliamentary-related fields, to serve common interests.

Highlighting the importance of the Joint Higher Jordanian-Moroccan Committee’s periodical meetings in expanding economic cooperation, Fayez called for increasing trade exchanges, setting an economic strategy that could serve common interests and introducing new investments in cooperation with the two countries’ private sectors.

Miyara expressed his country’s keenness on bolstering bilateral ties in various sectors, voicing appreciation for Jordan’s efforts towards achieving a comprehensive reform to promote democracy and enhance the rule of law.

Following the meeting, Fayez and Miyara signed a memorandum of understanding meant to enhance parliamentary cooperation and advance parliamentary dialogue between the two sides.

Fayez’s tour also included a meeting with Speaker of Moroccan Parliament Rasheed Al Talebi Al Alami, during which talks went over bilateral ties and the current regional conditions.

Fayez stressed the need to put into effect previous agreements between the countries to face economic challenges facing the two sides, including the impacts of the pandemic.

During a meeting with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Borita, Fayez stressed the importance of resolving regional crises, reiterating that “a fair and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian cause, on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative, is key for resolving all regional crises”.

On the Syrian crisis, Fayez voiced Jordan’s support for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Borita expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s efforts towards realising regional peace and stability, highlighting the ongoing coordination between the countries over issues of shared interest.
