AMMAN — The Senate’s Labour and Social Development Committee members on Sunday met Minister of Social Development Basma Ishaqat and a number of ministry personnel, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Senator Sawsan Majali said the aim of the meeting was to review the ministry’s projects, at the forefront of which was the National Social Protection Strategy to assess the extent to which it aligns with His Majesty King Abdullah’s 2025 vision and the global Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
During the meeting, Ishaqat explained that the strategy spans four primary fields, which are labour market policy, social insurances, social services and social aid. Ishaqat also addressed the complementary support programme “Takaful”, the largest of its kind in the Kingdom at a cost of JD200 million over a three-year period, pointing to its importance in supporting underprivileged families.
