Saturday announced public holiday to mark Islamic new year

AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz has issued a communiqué declaring Saturday, August 31, a public holiday for ministries and public departments to observe the Islamic Hijri new year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

This Muharram 1 marks 1441 lunar years since Prophet Mohammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina, known as “hijra”.
