AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi held extensive talks on Tuesday with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
During the meeting, the two top diplomats emphasised the depth of the Jordanian-US partnership and their mutual commitment to developing cooperation across various fields.
They also discussed regional developments and ongoing efforts to end the escalation and restore calm in the region, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Safadi stressed the need to adhere to the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
He highlighted the importance of reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz under international law, and establishes lasting security and stability.
The two ministers condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Councilcountries.
They also discussed the situation in Gaza and efforts to ensure the implementation of all components of US President Donald Trump’s plan.
Safadi stressed the need to intensify efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, while Rubio praised the Kingdom’s role in promoting regional security and stability.
Safadi expressed his appreciation to his US counterpart for the United States' continued support to Jordan.
Safadi explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and discussed regional developments during a series of meetings on Capitol Hill.
In the Senate, he met with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Jim Risch, and the Chair of the Democratic Caucus Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
In the House of Representatives, he held talks with the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Representative Brian Mast, and the Ranking Democratic Member of the committee Representative Gregory Meeks.
