Safadi talks ties, region in Germany meetings

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his German counterpart Heiko Maas are scheduled to hold talks on Tuesday in Berlin focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and the latest regional developments. 

Safadi is also participating in the second Stockholm Ministerial Meeting on Nuclear Disarmament and the Non-Proliferation Treaty in the presence of foreign ministers and representatives of 16 member states in the initiative, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. 

On the sidelines of the conference, Safadi is planned to meet his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde over means to garner support for UNRWA and enhance bilateral ties. He is also scheduled to hold talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha. 

Safadi started his visit to Germany by participating in a dialogue session organised by the Körber Foundation in the presence of several diplomats, officials, academics and economists. 

During the session, the minister reviewed the Kingdom's policies on regional developments, mainly those pertaining to the Palestinian cause, Syria and the war on terrorism, as well as Jordan's efforts to resolve regional crises and realise a comprehensive and just peace that is accepted by the region’s peoples. 

He also acquainted attendees with the economic reforms Jordan has implemented to improve economic performance and address the repercussions of regional crises, mainly the Syrian refugee influx.
