Safadi reiterates Jordan’s support for Egypt, Sudan on water rights

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam Al Sadiq Al Mahdi on Thursday discussed means to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields. 

The talks, held over the phone, also reviewed regional developments and efforts aimed at enhancing Arab cooperation in the face of joint challenges in service of Arab issues, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The two ministers also voiced keenness to “elevate the historical and brotherly ties to a wider scope of cooperation” in the economic, investment, agricultural, health, tourism and cultural fields. 

Safadi voiced Jordan’s full solidarity with Sudan in the democratic transformation process. For his part, Mahdi highlighted the importance of the role and the efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah in enhancing regional security and stability, serving Arab causes. 

Mahdi also commended the Kingdom’s stances towards supporting Sudan in regional issues and in its democratic process to realise development and increase economic growth, and meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people. 

Safadi and Mahdi highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian issue, stressing that the two-state solution that embodies the independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital according to international law and the Arab Peace Initiative is the sole way to realise a just and comprehensive peace. 

The two ministers also reviewed the developments in the Renaissance Dam, where Safadi stressed Jordan’s support to Sudan and Egypt in their efforts to protect their water rights through reaching a comprehensive agreement that preserves the rights of all parties according to international law.
