AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi met Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi in Washington on Wednesday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, advancing key infrastructure projects, and reviewing regional developments.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of their visits to the US capital, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
Safadi conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Abdullah and delivered the King's invitation for the Iraqi prime minister to visit Jordan.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen Jordanian-Iraqi relations and deepen cooperation across economic and development sectors. They also reviewed progress on the Basra–Aqaba oil pipeline and the electricity interconnection projects between the two countries, emphasising the importance of advancing both ventures in support of their shared economic interests.
Regional and international developments also featured prominently in the talks, the statement said, with the two sides underscoring the importance of promoting security and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack joined part of the meeting.
The three sides discussed opportunities to expand economic cooperation among Jordan, Iraq and the United States in areas of mutual interest, with the aim of advancing the shared interests of the three countries.
