Jordan among Europe's closest partners in region — Kallas

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Tuesday discussed with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas ways to strengthen Jordan-EU cooperation across a range of sectors.

Speaking alongside Safadi, Kallas said that Jordan is an indispensable partner for the European Union in the region, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

She said Jordan remains one of Europe's closest and most reliable partners in the Middle East, stressing the EU's commitment to maintaining close coordination and dialogue with the Kingdom on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Kallas reaffirmed the EU's determination to deepen its partnership with Jordan, building on the outcomes of the 2026 Jordan-EU Summit and the launch of the bilateral Security and Defence Dialogue.

She stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East are in Europe's strategic interest, noting that "the problems of our neighbours today become our problems tomorrow."

Highlighting the rapidly evolving regional situation, Kallas said the EU is closely monitoring developments and remains committed to supporting efforts to end the escalation in the region while contributing to the next phase of diplomatic negotiations and broader political initiatives.
