Safadi denounces attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait

Foreign minister, Arab counterparts discuss regional developments, de-escalation efforts


AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Wednesday condemned the Iranian attacks against Bahrain and Kuwait.

During separate phone calls with Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Safadi affirmed Jordan’s full solidarity with both countries in confronting the attacks, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi stressed that Jordan stands firmly with Bahrain and Kuwait in all measures they take to safeguard their security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of their citizens.

In a call with the Kuwaiti foreign minister, Safadi expressed Jordan’s deepest condolences over the victims of the attacks, which targeted several civilian facilities and vital installations, including Kuwait International Airport, and resulted in one fatality. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Also on Wednesday, Safadi held separate phone calls with Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal Bin Farhan, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, and Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al Shaibani.

During the call with the Saudi foreign minister, held within the framework of ongoing coordination between the two kingdoms, Safadi and Prince Faisal discussed regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore security and stability on foundations that ensure their sustainability.

The two ministers condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait as a violation of sovereignty and a setback to de-escalation efforts, according to the Foreign Ministry statement.

They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Jordan and Saudi Arabia across various fields, reaffirming the strong historical ties between the two countries.

Safadi and his Iraqi counterpart discussed bilateral relations and reviewed the latest regional developments. The two ministers stressed the importance of continued efforts to end regional escalation and restore calm, underscoring the need for a comprehensive solution based on international law, respect for sovereignty, and principles of good neighbourliness.

Safadi also congratulated Hussein on his reappointment as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Iraq’s new government.

In his call with the Syrian foreign minister, the two sides stressed the importance of continued progress in Jordanian-Syrian relations across various fields, reflecting the depth of ties between the two countries and their mutual commitment to strengthening them.

They also discussed efforts to contain the dangerous escalation in the region and restore calm, as part of broader efforts to achieve lasting security and stability.
