AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Sunday discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments during a phone call.
The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Jordan and Canada and expanding cooperation across various sectors, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They also reviewed the repercussions of the recent regional escalation, stressing the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and resuming negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of tensions and ensures freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
On Gaza, Safadi underscored the need to implement all provisions of US President Donald Trump's Gaza plan and to lift Israeli restrictions that continue to impede the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the Strip, which he said remains in the grip of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Safadi also briefed Anand on the serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank, attributing it to continued illegal Israeli measures that entrench the occupation and increase the risk of further escalation.
He commended Canada for its support of the two-state solution and its efforts to promote security, stability and a just peace in the region.
The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
