Safadi, Borrell discuss efforts to halt Gaza war, protect civilians

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Monday discussed rallying efforts to halt the war on Gaza, protecting civilians and respect of international law and international humanitarian law. During a phone conversation with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Josep Borrell, Safadi briefed the EU diplomat on Saturday’s meeting between the foreign ministers of Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation Secretary General with the United States Secretary of State. Safadi also conveyed to Borrell the Arab stance reiterated during Saturday’s meeting that emphasised the importance of halting the ongoing war on Gaza and the resulting loss of life, while rejecting describing it as an act of self-defence.
