Royal initiatives: Issawi opens number of projects in Aqaba

AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Wednesday attended the opening of a number of Royal initiative projects in Aqaba. 

These efforts are in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, following his interactive dialogues with the governorate's local residents and dignitaries.

At the forefront of King Abdullah’s agenda is sustainable social and economic development that delivers positive outcomes for citizens across the Kingdom. These Royal initiatives address the needs of local communities, and aim to have a transformative effect on targeted groups, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In Al Disah region, Issawi, who is also head of the follow up committee for the implementation of Royal initiatives, inaugurated Al Disah Multipurpose Hall. The facility was designed to be a hub for cultural activities, workshops, training programmes and development initiatives, with a particular focus on youth empowerment.

Created in collaboration with the Zaha Cultural Centre, the hall covers an area of approximately 400 square metres, and houses administrative offices, various facilities and accessible pathways for people with disabilities. 

Issawi also handed over the keys to eight new, fully-equipped and furnished residences to the families of the victims of the chlorine gas leak which occurred in Aqaba port in June of last year, in accordance with the Royal Decree to provide housing for the families of the gas leak victims. 

During his visit, Issawi also took a first-hand look at the comprehensive services offered by the Princess Taghrid Measurement and Diagnostic Centre and the Bait Al Mahabah, which are both affiliated with the Princess Taghrid Institute for Development and Training (PTI).

PTI provides examination and diagnostic services tailored to children with special needs. Meanwhile, Bait Al Mahabah seeks to support young women facing health, developmental and vocational challenges, ensuring that they receive holistic care and protection.

The women’s shelter, Bait Al Mahabah, was equipped by the Arab Fertilisers and Chemicals Company - KEMAPCO, a subsidiary of the Arab Potash Company, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and the Royal Initiatives Follow-up Management. 

The inspection tour included the project to renovate the historic house of Sharif Hussein bin Ali, which is being transformed into a museum that tells the story of Sharif Hussein’s life and the Great Arab Revolt, per  Royal directives.

Issawi also visited the Mithaq Association for Development and Empowerment, which was provided with essential resources to continue its mission of community development and empowering youth.
