AMMAN — Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal Initiatives, on Sunday sponsored the launch of a Royal Initiative in refugee camps.

The initiative aims at helping underprivileged and low-income families in the camps improve their living conditions through setting up entrepreneurial and productive projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the launch ceremony at the Royal Hashemite Court, the Community Centres Association signed several initiatives with 13 charitable organisations operating in refugee camps, which were chosen after they have met the set criteria.

The Royal Initiative aims at supporting those families by enabling them to set up small-scale and productive income-generating projects that contribute to improving their standards of living, as well as providing them with necessary training in the field of setting up and managing projects, according to Petra.

The initiative also seeks to empower and build the capacity of relevant civil society institutions through providing them with necessary training to further enhance their role in serving the local communities so as to be effective partners in implementing the initiative.

Issawi said that the launch of this Royal Initiative comes in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah to support and empower underprivileged families and communities in camps through setting up small-scale and productive income-generating projects that will create job opportunities and help families be more effective in the society.
