RJ passengers advised to check flight status before heading to airport

AMMAN — Royal Jordanian advised its passengers on Wednesday to call 065100000 to check on their flight status before heading to the Queen Alia International Airport.

In a text message, the airline said passengers should be at the airport three to four hours prior to departure.

RJ issued a statement later in the day saying it has cancelled or delayed some flights that had been scheduled on Thursday and Friday due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Acting President/CEO Captain Haitham Misto urged passengers to call RJ and check its website (rj.com) and pages on social media regularly to access detailed information on the cancellations and delays.

He said the airline is sending text messages to passengers to inform them of these changes.

Until Wednesday evening, RJ had cancelled flights to Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Larnaca, Athens, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Baghdad, Dubai, Riyadh, Aqaba and Cairo, in addition to other delayed flights, according to the statement, which said that more cancellations are expected.

The country witnessed very strong winds, heavy rain and snow on Wednesday as a very cold polar front accompanied by a depression prevailed, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department, which expected the impact of the extreme weather to continue on Thursday and Friday.

Heavy snow started falling in the early morning hours of Wednesday in the northern region and moved to the central region and some southern governorates by in the afternoon, the authorities said, adding that the desert road was partially open to traffic with extreme caution due to strong sand-raising winds.

Until Wednesday afternoon, streets in the capital were open to traffic but with extreme caution, except for the Safout road, which was closed due to snow accumulation, the Public Security Department said.

Several main roads linking the northern governorates were closed for traffic due to snow accumulation, such as the Irbid-Jerash-Amman road, Nueimeh-Ajloun and Nueimeh-Irbid roads as well as Jerash-Souf road.
