AMMAN — Production at Risha gas field has increased from 7.5 million cubic metres to 80 million cubic metres following efforts to expand production capacity and drill new wells after years of slowdown, the National Petroleum Company (NPC) said on Thursday.

The remarks came during a visit by the Lower House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee to the company, headed by MP Ayman Abu Hanieh, to review its operations and future plans in the energy sector.

NPC Technical Adviser Hazem Dmour said the company, established in 1995, is continuing efforts through its technical teams to further boost production capacity.

He noted that NPC signed a contract with Kuwait Drilling Company and is also working to increase the quantities of gas extracted from the field while diversifying its customer base for natural gas.

Dmour added that the company is seeking investments in gas compression and liquefaction projects, in addition to signing memoranda of understanding with investors interested in purchasing natural gas.

For his part, Abu Hanieh said the gas project has contributed to attracting investment to Jordan, praising the company’s role in strengthening the Kingdom’s energy sector and securing fuel supplies, particularly amid ongoing regional challenges.

He stressed the strategic importance of the Risha field in supporting Jordan’s energy security and boosting domestic gas production, noting that the company was built on Jordanian expertise and operates in line with national interests.

NPC Director General Mohammad Khasawneh said around 120 technical employees are currently working in the field, while also outlining the company’s concession areas and its role in the Kingdom’s energy sector.
