Restaurants, cafés to be closed during daytime in Ramadan — regulations

AMMAN — Interior Minister Salameh Hammad on Thursday issued instructions to prevent “violations of the sanctity” of Ramadan in public and private institutions, public squares, streets and means of transport, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Under the regulations, restaurants and cafés are not allowed to remain open during the day and all liquor stores will be closed, according to Petra.

The ministry called on all citizens and residents of the Kingdom not to violate the sanctity of Ramadan, expected to start next week according to the Islamic lunar calendar, and “not to offend the feelings of people who are fasting”.

Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset in Ramadan, the ninth month of the Hijri calendar.
