AMMAN — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Jordan and the Jordan National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS) on Monday opened the 7th Family Links Network Conference for the Near and Middle East Region.
The three-day conference, held from November 17–19 in Amman, brings together representatives from 11 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Syria, the UAE, Lebanon and Qatar, alongside delegates from ICRC missions and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) across the region.
According to an ICRC statement, the Family Links Network is a key platform for cooperation across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, dedicated to helping families who have been separated by conflict, natural disasters or migration.
Through the global network, the Movement works to reconnect separated family members and support them during what is often an extremely distressing period. Support includes administrative assistance, tracing services and referrals to relevant organisations, the statement said, adding that the ICRC has been reuniting families since 1859.
Throughout the conference, participants would exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learned in addressing the needs of separated families, missing persons, the deceased and their relatives. The gathering aims to strengthen regional cooperation and reaffirm a shared humanitarian commitment to alleviating the suffering of those who remain without news of their loved ones.
