Regional instability due to unresolved Palestinian-Israeli conflict — speaker

ISTANBUL — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Thursday linked the region’s instability and insecurity to the absence of a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, underlining the centrality of the Palestinian issue in Jordan’s foreign policy.

Tarawneh made the remarks during a meeting in Istanbul with the speaker of Iran’s shura council, Ali Larijani, on the sidelines of the 10th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States.

During the meeting, Tarawneh added that Israeli intransigence in resolving the issue is a major cause of tension not only for the Palestinians but also for all Arabs and Muslims.

The two officials also stressed the need for more international efforts to combat radicalism and terrorism and discussed means to enhance Jordanian-Iranian relations.
