Recent rainfall pours 5 million cubic metres of water into dams

AMMAN — The Water Ministry/Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) on Saturday said that the long-term annual average of rainfall until Saturday morning increased to 54 per cent of the long-term average of 8.1 billion cubic metres, including 10 per cent on one day.
This date last year, the Kingdom received 39.7 per cent of its long-term annual average of rainfall, the ministry said in a statement.
Rainwater that entered dams over the past 24 hours reached some 5 million cubic metres (mcm), which increased total storage in the Kingdom’s main dams to 111mcm, which equals 38.5 per cent of their total storage of 288.128mcm, the ministry said.
The ministry added that the highest downpour over the past 24 hours was registered in Ajloun with 74.2 millimetres.
