AMMAN — The recent precipitation raised the overall volume of rainfall, since the beginning of the wet season to 45 per cent of Jordan’s long-term annual average of 8.1 billion cubic metres, the Water Ministry said on Thursday.
A total of 2.4 million cubic metres (mcm) of water entered the country’s major dams during the recent blizzard, with the King Talal Dam receiving the greatest share of rainwater, some 1.4 mcm.
The ministry also urged the public to make use of rainwater instead of connecting rainwater gutters to sewage networks to avoid clogging that leads to flooding.
In light of the weather conditions expected by Thursday night, the ministry urged the public to protect their water meters by covering them with warm material to ensure they will not be damaged if temperatures fall below 0°C.
