AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Omar Razzaz on Thursday conveyed greetings to Jordanians on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, extending his well wishes to Arabs and Muslims around the world.

The premier expressed his greetings to His Majesty King Abdullah on the occasion, wishing blessings upon the unified Jordanian family under the Hashemite leadership, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Razzaz noted that, this year, the holy month arrives during exceptional circumstances, as the world witnesses a pandemic that has caused severe human and economic losses for all humanity and exhausted entire health systems.

The prime minister affirmed that Jordan is containing the pandemic under the leadership, directives and close follow up of His Majesty the King.

Ramadan invites Jordanians to continue practising the virtuous values they have been exhibiting throughout the crisis, he said, calling on citizens to display patience in the face of adversity, solidarity, resilience and generosity, and to aid the underprivileged.

Razzaz highlighted the lessons Jordan has learned from the pandemic, as it has instilled in Jordanians a spirit of accomplishment on the economic, political and social levels and motivated the Kingdom to activate its regional and global role in providing assistance in the form of medical care and supplies, pharmaceuticals and food aid.

He asserted that the current exceptional circumstances “call for exceptional decisions” in order to adapt to the current stage, highlighting that the government started relevant measures early, as it has taken 240 health, educational, economic, regulatory and social protection decisions so far.

The prime minister affirmed that Jordan has “set an example for the world to follow”, highlighting that the Kingdom started planning for recovery, strengthening its immunity and achieving self-reliance in food, medicine, industry, entrepreneurship and innovation, under the leadership of King Abdullah.

Razzaz acknowledged the sacrifices Jordanians have made in combatting the coronavirus pandemic, urging them to maintain their commitment in this regard by “letting go of some beloved social Ramadan traditions”.

The premier concluded his speech by calling on Jordanians to hold fast to commitment, unity, partnership and optimism.
