AMMAN — The Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Mohammad Khalaileh on Monday called on the public to look for the crescent moon (hilal) of Shawwal, which marks the end of Ramadan at sunset on Saturday, June 24, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The crescent marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and the first day of the Muslim feast Eid Al Fitr. If the sighting is confirmed, Muslims in Jordan will stop fasting on Sunday; otherwise, they will do so on Monday.
Sharia courts around Jordan will open to receive witnesses who saw the crescent.
