Public Prosecution completes probe into Luweibdeh building collapse

AMMAN — The Public Prosecutor's Office has completed an eight-day investigation into the collapse of a residential building in the Jabal Luweibdeh neighbourhood, and has decided to refer the case to the competent court .
The Public Prosecution heard testimony from 21 witnesses, conducted several specialised technical examinations, questioned the defendants and ordered them to be placed in custody, Public Prosecutor Hassan Abdallat said on Wednesday.
He noted that the Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of an heir of the owner of the building, who was responsible for supervising the property, the building’s maintenance contractor and a maintenance technician, and charged them with 14 counts of manslaughter and causing harm. The incident claimed the lives of 14 people and left nine injuries.
