PSUT hosts Jordan’s participation in International Olympiad in Informatics

AMMAN — Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), for the second year in a row, hosted the Jordanian team’s participation in the 32nd International Olympiad in Informatics.

The event was organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Singapore, said a PSUT statement.

The competition, held virtually, witnessed the participation of 360 competitors representing 89 countries.

The Jordanian team consisted of Wesam Nasser from King Abdullah II Schools for Excellence in Zarqa, Malik Sadaqa from Al Radwan Schools, Muhammad Saad from Modern Systems School, and Nour Al Shamaila from Princess Basma Secondary School for Girls.

The event was held under the supervision of Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences Ashraf Ahmad, international arbitrator Ammar Odeh, laboratory supervisor Hammam Alakhras, and student Muhammad Al Kilani, according to the statement.

PSUT President   Mashhoor Al Refai said that the university, under the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya, chair of its board of trustees, spared no effort to support outstanding students in the Kingdom and strives to remain a technological platform for all.

For his part, Ahmad indicated that the competition aims to raise the level of students in programming, enhance the spirit of competition among them, and strengthen teamwork.

Jordan participated for the first time in the Olympiad in 2003, and returned to participate in 2014 through a group of students and university professors, in cooperation with the Jordanian Programmers Association.

The Olympiad, which was introduced for the first time in 1987, is one of the world’s well-known computer science and informatics competitions for participants from six to 20 years old, and is organised in one of the member countries of the International Informatics Committee, according to the statement.
