AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday inaugurated a new museum in Aqaba, showcasing the history and development of Jordan's public security under the Hashemite leadership.

The museum features historical documents, photographs and artefacts that trace the PSD's journey from 1921 to the present day, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Naif Fayez, chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), PSD Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah and several senior PSD officers and Aqaba officials attended the opening ceremony.

Maaytah emphasised the symbolic significance of the museum's location in Aqaba which is associated with the Great Arab Revolt.

Fayez noted that the addition of the museum to the "Triangle of the Renaissance" sites like Aqaba, Wadi Rum and the Founding King's Palace in Maan enhances the region's cultural and tourist appeal and reflects Jordan's identity and history.

The museum is housed in a historic PSD building that served as a police station in the 1930s and then as a correctional and rehabilitation centre between the 1990s and 2002.

The museum's doors are open daily from 10am to 10pm, except on Tuesdays.
