AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate and the EU on Sunday launched a project to support protection and prevention systems to combat gender-based violence, as part of continuous efforts to respond to social and economic challenges in Jordan.

The project was launched in cooperation with the European Union Regional Trust Fund for Responding to the Syrian Crisis (Madad Fund) and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The project aims at enhancing prevention and detection mechanisms for gender-based violence and supporting PSD's efforts exerted through the family and juvenile protection unit.

EU Ambassador to Jordan Maria Hadjitheodosiou said that gender-based violence "hides in double walls of social silence and global epidemic", which made the EU expand its efforts in the Kingdom to help limit all types of this violence through boosting PSD capabilities in supporting victims of gender-based violence.
