PSD chief inaugurates RPA Leadership Academy building

AMMAN — Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah on Thursday inaugurated the Leadership Academy building at the Royal Police Academy (RPA) in the presence of British Ambassador to Jordan Bridget Brind.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maaytah stressed the importance of boosting training facilities to provide an appropriate environment for transferring expertise as well as offering security and police skills, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The newly launched Leadership Academy represents a "promising" training centre and provides the necessary means to make it a "distinguished, leading" institute at the regional and international levels, Maaytah said.

The PSD director said that the academy's inauguration comes within the framework of PSD's modernisation and development process, which would be positively reflected in the improvement security operations’ efficiency and the level of services provided to citizens.

He noted that the next stage will garner increased attention in building human capabilities to ensure professionalism and competence in conducting police duties, following strategies involving training programmes that suit the needs of various police specialties.

Brind expressed pride in the "solid" cooperation relations between the police apparatuses of both countries, especially in the fields of training and in the exchange of expertise.  She also stressed her country's keenness to benefit from and maintain this partnership to develop and modernise security services.

The academy's new headquarters comprise halls with modern training facilities to host conferences and workshops according to the highest standards, as well as administrative and departmental facilities that provide practical training and are supplied with "advanced" distance learning technology, Petra added.
