Prosecutor contests Abu Qatada not guilty ruling

AMMAN — The State Security Court prosecutor on Monday filed a petition with the Cassation Court, contesting a court ruling in June in which hard-line cleric Mahmoud Othman, known as Abu Qatada, was cleared of terrorism charges.

The prosecutor demanded that the Cassation Court overturn the verdict and convict Abu Qatada.

Abu Qatada’s lawyer Ghazi Thneibat filed a petition with the Cassation Court, requesting that the ruling be upheld.
