AMMAN — First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House Nassar Qaisi on Thursday said that the House “has open arms” for partnering with civil society organisations that serve national interests, welcoming any suggestions and recommendations geared towards improving legislations.

During the launching ceremony for the project “Enhancing the capacity of civil society organisations to improve parliamentary performance”, Qaisi added that enhancing citizen participation in parliamentary legislation and oversight constitutes “the true core of parliamentary philosophy”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He pointed out that the House has launched a centre for legislative studies and research with the aim of strengthening parliamentary performance, in addition to carrying out many reforms. Spanish Ambassador to Jordan Aránzazu Bañón Dávalos stressed at the ceremony that Spain seeks to promote democracy, highlighting its focus on civil society organisations, women and youth to enhance their participation in political life.
