AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal on Wednesday sponsored a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the National Federation of Young Women’s Christian Associations (YWCA) in Jordan.
Princess Basma commended the YWCA’s contributions to community service, women’s empowerment, youth development and the promotion of active citizenship, noting that its seven-decade journey reflects Jordan’s spirit of coexistence and social cohesion.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
YWCA President Hania Qaqish said the federation represents a humanitarian and national mission that views women as genuine partners in development.
She added that, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, Jordan continues to embody pluralism and human dignity, values that align with the federation’s principles.
Qaqish highlighted the federation’s impact on hundreds of women and families through economic empowerment initiatives, services and training programmes.
During the ceremony, which featured folkloric and national performances, Princess Basma honoured a number of pioneering YWCA members in recognition of their voluntary service.
She also honoured a supporter of the federation’s scholarship programme, as well as top female student beneficiaries.
