AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, honorary President of the Arab Women Media Centre, on Sunday attended the annual Arab Media Day ceremony and the 25th anniversary of its founding, under the title "Towards a Digital Media that Promotes Change."

In her speech, Princess Basma congratulated female Arab journalists, referring to the early beginnings of the centre some 25 years ago and its goals to train and qualify Arab journalists to carry out their mission with professionalism, honesty and proficiency, despite various economic, social and political challenges.

The princess stressed the importance of the centre's efforts in highlighting the concerns and issues of Arab women, particularly journalists, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She also referred to the centre's role in enhancing dialogue, meetings and the exchange of opinions and experiences between female journalists from various Arab countries, which reflect the use of media to defend women's rights and advance their role in the community.

Princess Basma pointed to the accreditation of the centre in 2002 by UNESCO as an Arab centre for media training, lauding the centre's initiatives, programmes and its role in networking with many Arab and international media organisations.

Sana Imam, the centre’s head of projects and programmes, reviewed its initiatives that focus on advanced media, which included empowering workers in the fields of protection and violence prevention.

Lara Tamash, secretary of the centre, stressed the importance of its media message, adding that the centre is committed to its goals in the continuous training of Arab women journalists.
