AMMAN — HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal, president of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), on Monday attended the launch of the “National Scientific Research Priorities (2026–2035)” project, implemented by the council, in the presence of university presidents and representatives of academic and industrial sectors.

Prince Hassan stressed that human capital constitutes the true investment in people, underscoring that building the individual remains the foundation of any sustainable national renaissance, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the launch, he emphasised that scientific research should not be viewed as a separate academic track, but rather be linked to comprehensive development and transformed into an effective tool for serving communities and improving quality of life.

He called for enhancing ties between academia and industry and advancing applied research by supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, in line with labour market needs and to better align educational outcomes with them.

The prince also addressed the importance of general statistics, highlighting the need to develop modern measurement tools, including the creation of a multidimensional deprivation index so that “statistics digitally account for everyone residing on this land.”

In this regard, Prince Hassan stressed the importance of inclusive data as a basis for fair planning and sound governance.

He highlighted that the core value lies in adopting a unified national approach, stressing that this vision “is not mere passing words,” but rather a sustained institutional commitment and a practical course of action.

The prince also underscored the importance of documenting scientific research as a national and intellectual memory, recalling the late King Hussein bin Talal’s saying, “Man is the most precious thing we possess,” as an ethical compass guiding development paths.

He stressed the significance of the concept of the “surrounding environment” as an integrative framework linking environment, technology and sound governance to ensure that policies reach people and positively impact their daily lives.

HCST Secretary-General Mashhour Rifai said that launching the 10-year project establishes a new phase in scientific research in Jordan and enhances the sector’s role in supporting the national economy and improving its competitiveness.

Rifai added that some 700 experts from inside and outside the Kingdom, representing various stakeholders, had participated in preparing the project.
