Prince Hashim celebrates 37th birthday

AMMAN — Today marks the birthday of HRH Prince Hashim, who was born on June 10, 1981 (Shaban 8, 1401 Hijri) to His Majesty the late King Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Noor.

The 41st direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad and the youngest brother of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prince Hashim completed his primary education in Amman and later enrolled in the Maret School in the US.

He then attended Sandhurst Military Academy in the UK, from which he graduated in 2000 (1421 Hijri) and received several awards, including an award for the best aggregate mark in his academic studies for non-British officers.

Prince Hashim graduated with distinction from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service on August 12, 2005 (7th of Rajab, 1426 Hijri), then completed his higher education in Koran studies at Balqa Applied University in Jordan and graduated on September 5, 2006 (11th of Shaban, 1427 Hijri). In 1 December 2014 (23rd of Safar, 1436), he earned a Master of Arts degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London in the UK.

Prince Hashim, who currently serves as an officer in the Jordan Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, is the recipient of several medals. He spent his military service in special operations (special forces, anti-terrorism, and commandoes). Prince Hashim was commander of the 61st Ranger Battalion (Al Maghaweer) part of Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, 28th Royal Ranger Brigade, from 2nd August 2015 till 8th September 2016.

During his military career, Prince Hashim completed his platoon commanders’ battle course in the US at Fort Benning in 2007, where he achieved the best marks among international officers taking part in the training. In 2009 (1430 Hijri), Prince Hashim participated and successfully completed the infantry company leaders course in the UAE during which he achieved the highest level of academic excellence, and in 2014 he attended the advance commandant and staff college in England and successfully completed it earning his PSCJ. 

On January 12, 2017, (Rabi II 13, 1438 Hijri), a Royal Decree was issued appointing Prince Hashim as His Majesty’s chief royal councillor.

Prince Hashim has been sworn in as Regent on several occasions and accompanied King Abdullah II to several official functions.

On January 6, 2006 (6th of Dhul Hijjah, 1426 Hijri), Prince Hashim married HRH Princess Fahdah and they have four children: TRH Prince Al Hussein, who was born in June 2015, Haalat Al Noor, born in April 2007, Raiyat Al Noor, born in July 2008 and Fatimah Al Aliah, born in November 2011.
