AMMAN — Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on Sunday inaugurated the Prince Feisal Youth City in Karak, coinciding with His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to the governorate.
The project was completed within a year after the implementation schedule was expedited, combining all three planned phases into one. Originally, only the first phase was set for completion this year, with the remaining two phases scheduled for next year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The acceleration was carried out in line with Royal directives to provide improved facilities for residents and to enhance the sports and youth movement in the governorate.
The fast-tracked completion of the project follows His Majesty’s directives to the government to continue developing sports infrastructure across the Kingdom. It also aligns with the Royal instructions to construct a new international football stadium to serve the sports and youth sectors, alongside ongoing upgrades to the facilities at Al Hussein Youth City, Jordan’s first sports complex.
During the inauguration, the prime minister stressed the importance of maintaining and sustaining the facilities to ensure that the new city continues to serve the people of the southern region and the local sports and youth community in the best possible way.
Hassan had previously inspected the progress of the project during His Majesty’s visit to Karak in November last year, marking the Silver Jubilee of the King’s assumption of constitutional powers. At the time, progress on the first phase stood at only 35 per cent.
He instructed that the project be completed in full, with the second and third phases carried out simultaneously with the first to ensure the entire development would be finalised within the current year.
Spread over more than 250 dunums, Prince Feisal Youth City includes an Olympic-standard swimming pool, a children’s learning pool, spectator stands, a five-a-side football pitch, a multipurpose acrylic court, service buildings, green areas and public amenities.
The complex also features leisure areas, open spaces, playgrounds for children and parking facilities, serving as a recreational hub for the locals.
Last month, the prime minister reviewed the ongoing modernisation and development works at Al Hussein Youth City in Amman, which were also carried out under Royal directives and have largely been completed to better serve sports federations and the public.
