Prime minister commits to double budget  in 2026 to support national team development

AMMAN — HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association (JFA), on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Association attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.

The meeting focused on building upon the "historic" achievement of the national football team’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup and leveraging this success to inspire youth and sustain long-term development in the sports sector.

Prince Ali expressed the JFA’s appreciation for the government’s continued support for youth and sports, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum following Jordan’s first-ever qualification for the World Cup finals by strengthening programmes, enhancing planning, and ensuring the sustainability of this milestone.

He also stressed the need to create a positive and lasting impact on all aspects of the football ecosystem, while laying the foundation for a sports legacy for future generations.

Hassan reaffirmed that the unwavering support and close follow-up by His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein played a vital role in the national team’s historic achievement. He also praised Prince Ali for his dedicated leadership of the JFA.

Hassan reiterated the government’s full support for the national team’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup and highlighted efforts to create an enabling environment for fan associations to mobilise and back the team on the global stage.

As part of these efforts, the prime minister announced that the government will double the JFA’s budget starting in 2026, helping the Association build on recent accomplishments and sustain progress. He also confirmed plans to expand youth football training centres across the Kingdom’s governorates and to utilise existing youth centre infrastructure to support football and broader sports development.

The prime minister also stressed the importance of nurturing talent and providing the infrastructure needed to cultivate skills in sports and other areas. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to constructing, maintaining and rehabilitating training stadiums in governorates to serve clubs and emerging athletic talent.

He also noted that the new international football stadium, directed by His Majesty King Abdullah, would be constructed to the highest international standards and is expected to significantly advance Jordan’s sports infrastructure.

During the meeting, JFA Secretary-General Samar Nassar presented a detailed overview of the Association’s strategic plan. The plan includes goals such as enhancing the technical performance of national teams, raising the standard of local competitions, supporting youth development, strengthening governance and financial sustainability, improving infrastructure, expanding marketing efforts, and increasing public engagement.
