AMMAN — HRH Prince Ali, Chairman of the Royal Film Commission (RFC), on Monday attended the premiere of the Australian documentary “Australia and the Great Arab Revolt – The 1918 Campaign: A Partnership Forged Under Fire” at the RFC headquarters in Amman.
The screening, produced by the Australian embassy in Amman, was attended by Royal family members, ministers, Australian Ambassador to Jordan Bernard Lynch, senior officials, and several ambassadors, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
The film highlights the historical partnership between Australia and Jordan that began during the Great Arab Revolt in 1918, and also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In remarks at the event, Lynch said that Australia and Jordan enjoy a “long-standing and solid” partnership that traces its roots back to the Great Arab Revolt led by the Hashemites, when Australian forces fought alongside Arab forces in battles that took place in Jordan.
He expressed the embassy’s pride in presenting the premiere of this unique documentary, which reflects the efforts of both nations, and extended his thanks to Prince Ali, HRH Princess Rym Ali, and the RFC for their support and cooperation in hosting the film.
Lynch noted that the documentary serves as a “living testimony to the deep historical ties between Australians and Jordanians that span over a century.”
It documents the beginnings of cooperation in 1918, when units of the Australian cavalry, air force, and other troops entered Jordanian territory in support of the Hashemite-led revolt, said the ambassador.
He also highlighted the “steady” growth of bilateral relations over the past five decades, expanding across various fields including diplomacy, trade, technology, water management, agriculture, education, and culture, reinforced by broad people-to-people ties.
