AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Monday inspected ongoing modernisation and development works at Al Hussein Youth City, carried out in line with His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives to upgrade the complex’s sports and cultural facilities.
During the visit, Hassan underscored the importance of maintaining high standards of regular maintenance and cleanliness across all venues to ensure their readiness to serve athletes, youth, and the public, as well as to host local and international sporting events, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
He also stressed the need to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for both athletes and spectators, noting that Al Hussein Youth City attracts nearly two million visitors annually and serves as home to 53 sports federations.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between sports federations and youth centres affiliated with the Ministry of Youth, calling for broader and more diverse programmes developed in partnership with experienced professionals to better serve young people across the Kingdom, the statement read.
Accompanied by Minister of Youth Raed Al Adwan, Hassan toured several facilities where most of the modernisation works have been completed. The project includes comprehensive maintenance of all facilities, installation of new outdoor sports equipment, and a full renovation of the Olympic Pool to resolve previous technical issues in line with international standards.
The Sports Palace has undergone a complete refurbishment, featuring new lighting, flooring, and upgraded rooms for players and referees, serving eight sports federations, the statement read.
Prince Rashid Hall, Al Yarmouk Hall and Prince Hamzah Hall have also been renovated, along with general upgrades to Petra Stadium’s facilities for players, coaches, and referees. Prince Hamzah Hall also saw insulation works, improved lighting, and maintenance of spectator seating.
The Cultural Palace also received internal and external maintenance, including the replacement of more than 1,100 auditorium seats, with completion expected in the first quarter of next year. Additional facility upgrades across the city are ongoing, the statement read.
During the visit, Hassan was briefed by Al Hussein Youth City Director Raed Merza on the progress achieved. He also met with athletes and federation officials, who said the modernisation works have significantly improved the quality of sports events, training programmes, and championships.
The prime minister had previously visited the complex in March, when he directed the swift preparation of a detailed maintenance plan for all its facilities, in implementation of His Majesty’s Royal directives.
