AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Thursday received European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica at the Prime Ministry, where discussions focused on strengthening the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Jordan and the European Union, particularly in the economic and development sectors.
The meeting, attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh, also reviewed preparations for the Jordan-EU Investment Conference and its role in expanding opportunities for the private sector and enhancing investment cooperation, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
Hassan expressed Jordan’s appreciation for the partnership with the EU and praised its support for development projects in the Kingdom, particularly the National Water Carrier Project.
Separately, Toukan witnessed the signing of three financing agreements worth a total of 135 million euros under the Jordan-EU strategic partnership framework.
The agreements include 30 million euros for human capital development, focusing on inclusive education, vocational training, social protection and democratic participation, especially for women, youth and persons with disabilities.
Another 80 million euros was allocated to support refugees and host communities through cash assistance, social services and skills development, including support for the voluntary, dignified and sustainable return of Syrian refugees.
The package also includes 25 million euros for integrated border management and internal security to strengthen Jordan’s capabilities in combating cross-border crime, cyber threats and human trafficking.
The Jordan-EU strategic partnership, signed in January 2025, is backed by a 3-billion-euro EU commitment for the 2025-2027 period through grants, investments and concessional loans.
