AMMAN — Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun affirmed the strong and historic bonds between Lebanon and Jordan as he arrived in the Kingdom on an official visit on Tuesday, upon an invitation from His Majesty King Abdullah.
"I am delighted to be visiting Jordan in response to the kind invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah. This visit reaffirms the genuine and long-standing ties between our two nations, grounded in mutual respect and constructive cooperation", President Aoun said in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
He noted that the visit comes at a critical time for the region, amid escalating challenges and growing demands for unified Arab efforts to address common challenges, combat terrorism and extremism, and uphold regional security and stability.
He also said that he would discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors with the King, with a “particular focus on supporting national institutions, mainly the Lebanese armed forces.”
He also highlighted the shared burden of hosting Syrian refugees, calling for a just solution that ensures their safe and dignified return to their homeland.
The Lebanese president expressed his deep appreciation for Jordan’s support for Lebanon in regional and international forums and for the Kingdom’s continued assistance during times of hardship under the leadership of His Majesty.
Expressing thanks for the Jordanian leadership and people for their warm welcome and genuine hospitality, he expressed hope that the visit would mark a new milestone in the ongoing partnership and fraternal cooperation between Lebanon and Jordan.
